Under Paris Skies

If you like gypsy jazz à la Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli's "Quintette du Hot Club de France," 1934-48, you will love this show! Lannie Garrett and the Gypsy Swing Revue put their own stamp on this music and in many ways it continually surpasses the original versions. If you don't believe it, well come on down to the Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret and hear it for yourself.

Elliot Reed, lead guitar, dazzles us with his incredible licks, and as a special treat, we hope to see his magnificent imitation of Reinhardt's famous two-finger picking style (Reinhardt's left hand was severely burned in an accident). Reed is joined by Anthony Salvo, violin. Salvo's solos, atmospheric frills, and old-time savvy add immeasurably to the mix. Impressive work also from bassist Ian Hutchison and the ever-steady Stephan Hill on rhythm guitar.

Lannie Garrett and Elliot Reed
Garrett makes each number her own as always, with great helpings of poignancy and hilarity, as the case may be.

The singer and the band have an album, Under Paris Skies—a peak experience from beginning to end—from which much of the evening's song list is drawn. These include, "La Mer" ("Somewhere Beyond the Sea"), "Nature Boy," "C'est Si Bon," "Plenty of Money and You," "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen," "Moonglow," "La Vie En Rose," and more. The song list for the show will have some new additions and substitutions, including "Cheek to Cheek," "Nobody's Sweetheart Now," and more.

As usual, Garrett's costumes are something to behold. Be sure to buy the album when you leave!

Lannie Garrett's Under Paris Skies runs Saturdays, beginning November 2nd, at 8 PM, through November 30th. 303-293-0075 or www.Lannies.com.
