Ballet Director's Choice

Three contemporary works, including a world premiere, will conclude the Colorado Ballet's 53rd season.

Seiwert is a choreographer and the artistic director of the contemporary San Francisco ballet company Imagery, as well as Choreographer in Residence for Smuin Ballet, in Northern California. She was named one of "25 to Watch" by Dance Magazine in 2005. Traveling Alone is set to music by contemporary artist Max Richter. Richter's music has also been used by several filmmakers, including Martin Scorcese in Shutter Island (2010).

Liang, a former soloist with the New York City Ballet, is a recipient of the Prince Prize for Choreography and was nominated for the Golden Mask Award in Russia for Best Production. He was also named one of "25 to Watch" by Dance Magazine in 2006. His piece will be set to the musics of Italian composer, musicologist, and conductor Ottorino Respighi, best known for his orchestral music, which has been performed and recorded by the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony, among others.

Brown is a former soloist dancer for American Ballet Theater and currently a Ballet Mistress for Colorado Ballet. She has assisted with choreography and staging multiple productions for Colorado Ballet and has created several original ballets. The Last Beat features five songs from the popular Colorado band DeVotchKa (who [along with two other favorite Colorado bands] will be appearing with the Colorado Symphony at Red Rocks on July 17th). The ballet is "Colorado made" from top to bottom, including choreographery, music, lighting, and costumes.

The Colorado Ballet's Ballet Director's Choice runs at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver on Friday, March 28th at 7:30 PM, Saturday, March 29th at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM, and Sunday, March 30th, at 2 PM, 303-837-8888 or www.coloradoballet.com. An encore performance at the Lone Tree Arts CenterLone Tree Arts Center will be held on Saturday, April 5th, at 8 PM.
